Cushioning

Sit in the car and move your body widely to see what parts of your arms, legs, feet, and head may come into contact with the car. If these parts cannot be removed, consider wrapping some cushioning. In most cases, these cushions will not affect the driver's driving.

The diameter of the shifter head and handbrake lever head should not be less than 25mm, and a relatively soft protective cover such as rubber can be installed on the lever head. The gearshift mechanism should not be exposed, and try to install a rounded shape housing. The steering column should be well cushioned with a cushion sleeve.

A cushion should be made on the inside of one knee, and a good cushion should be made on the outside of both knees on the door panels and other parts. If it is a narrow single-seater racing car, you can install cushions on all the inside walls of the pod. The roll cage within 50cm in front of the driver and on both sides should be covered with FIA approved hard foam tubing. Ordinary foam or tube covers do not necessarily provide cushioning in an accident.

For example, to protect the ankles, some cushioning can also be placed on the inside of shoes and socks. If you are wearing short-sleeved underwear under your fireproof race suit, your elbows may rub more against the suit. This is where some protection is needed.

Ventilation

The body and mental level will be reduced when the body temperature exceeds 38°C.

It is important to check the temperature in the car, in the helmet and in the race suit. If the temperature is too high, it is time to consider controlling the temperature. Ventilation can be increased, shade stalls can be added to the windows, or insulation can be placed on the firewall and center aisle.

Not wearing a fireproof race suit does not lower the body temperature much and is not recommended considering the risk of accidents and fires.

Emergency switches

Be sure that the circuit switch and fire extinguisher switch are close to the rider. Riders should be able to operate these switches quickly and accurately without releasing their seat belts.

Window screens

Many countries or races require that windows be closed and window screens be installed during the race. In the event of an accident, it may be necessary for rescuers to pull you out of the windows. So it's best to mark points on the outside of your car so that others can quickly and accurately know where to remove the window net from.

Head nets

The nets installed on both sides of the rider's head can also play a protective role. It restricts the movement of the driver's head and body, and also provides extra support for the seat. The current standard is FIA 8862.

Other equipment

If water, communication and camera equipment are installed in the car, make sure that they are in order and stable. The standard of stability is not to actively fall off or have a large displacement in the crash, rollover and other accidents.

The sunlight at sunset and other racing lights can affect the driver's vision. Putting some shade strips on the upper front window and rear window can improve this problem.
